Thanks to the short distance he could get ahead of Sonic, Shadow makes a sharp turn so that he comes face to face with the blue one. As what is common when two strange male GE hedgehogs meet one another, a fight breaks out between Sonic and Shadow. The fight itself seems to be a combination of how normal hedgehogs fight and a fighting style unique to these two GE hedgehogs due to their special abilities.
In his hovercraft, Eggman looks down at the two GE hedgehogs, smirking happily. All is going according to plan. He has wanted Sonic out of his hair for quite some time but hasn`t found a way to wipe out the blue hedgehog from his list of obstacles. In fact, it is because of Sonic that Eggman has been unable to take over the world as his own. Perhaps having his hands on this black hedgehog that is powerful and can keep up with Sonic would be the winning combination needed to defeat Sonic once and for all.
Beside Eggman on the seat lies Maria. She has lost some weight. She exhaustedly lays on her side with her head opposite to Eggman. Her expression is full of sadness and the fatigue is obvious.
Down below, the fight rages on between the two male hedgehogs. Standing side by side one another, they are engaged in a normal hedgehog battle position. It would appear that they are pushing into each other, but there is another motive. What they are actually doing is attempting to flip the other over. The quills on the both of them are stiffened and raised. Growling and hissing from them are relentless. Their heads are lowered down to try to get under their opponent to flip him over. But the wall of quills and the pushing form the opponent makes it difficult for both combatants to execute their desired move. This goes on for a bit with neither side backing down or allowing themselves to be flipped over.
Then suddenly Shadow latches onto Sonic`s ear with his teeth and starts pulling on the ear. Sonic rotates his body to put himself at a head-on position with Shadow. He yelps a bit but doesn`t let up his hissing. In a hedgehog fight, it is common for at least one of the combatants to loose an ear. However, Sonic isn`t up for sacrificing his ear. He lifts a paw and smacks Shadow in the face with the claws on the ends of his digits. This gets Shadow to get go of Sonic`s ear and Sonic quickly backs up to get a little distance between himself and Shadow. Shadow quickly recovers from the smack and comes at Sonic.
Both hedgehogs become black and blue streaks, zipping around the clear area. Eggman has trouble following them, but he doesn`t loose confidence in Shadow. He smiles again through his wild mustache as he sees that Shadow is giving Sonic some trouble. Shadow is throwing chaos spears at Sonic, one right after the other. Sonic does his best to dodge them so either the ground or trees are getting hits with them, causing explosions here and there.
During the zipping, Sonic`s eyes lower a little, looking to Shadow`s black belt choker. But a second later, Shadow is taking advantage of Sonic`s distraction and latches onto the front of Sonic`s throat with his teeth. The two hedgehogs slide to a stop and as they do so, Sonic lets out the "hedgie scream of death." Seeing Shadow drawing blood on Sonic`s throat and hearing that scream, Eggman leaps up to his feet. With a foot propped up on the edge of his hovercraft, Eggman cheers on Shadow,"Yes!! Finish him off, Shadow! Finish him!"
Shadow starts twisting his head and Sonic begins to wriggle erratically under his grasp. Then Sonic drops down on the ground backwards so that he lands on his back. Shadow abandons Sonic`s throat and aims for his belly. Sonic quickly throws a back foot up and kicks Shadow in the face. Shadow stumbles back and Sonic rolls over and gets back on all four feet. He quickly darts off, heading for the trees. Shadow shakes his head and looks up to see Sonic`s blue blurred self in the distance. Shadow takes off, running after Sonic. He throws a chaos spear at Sonic bu Sonic manages to dodge it and the spear explodes into the ground.
Now Sonic skids to a stop and turns around, facing Shadow, running straight for Shadow. It would appear that they might charge into each other like what two male deer might do. But instead, like in a game of chicken, Sonic waits until the last moment before he jerks to the side, ever so slightly. In a flash, unseen by the naked eye, Sonic grabs a hold of the black box attached to Shadow`s collar with his teeth. The box is crushed and falls from Shadow`s collar.
Something changes within Shadow. Shadow skids to a halt, looking over his shoulder in the same direction that Sonic has run off to. Sonic comes to a stop, standing tall and looking straight to Shadow. However, Sonic`s quills are no longer raised and his hissing and growling has ceased. Shadow runs straight at Sonic and runs right past Sonic. Sonic turns his head as Shadow passes him by, watching him. Shadow runs straight for Eggman and leaps up to his hovercraft floating in the air.
Eggman is caught off-guard by this,"What?!"
In a panic, Eggman grabs his remote control and presses the button furiously. Since the box was removed by Sonic, Shadow isn`t being harmed as what was done before. Eggman`s mouth drops open as he comes to this realization and within half a second, Shadow is on him. Shadow unleashes his fury on Eggman, attacking him in whatever way he can, mostly physically, but a few chaos spears get launched in what seems like random directions. There is a downside to this attack.
The hovercraft is getting rocked around as Shadow turns on Eggman. At one point, it tilts to the side far enough where Maria slips out of the hovercraft and falls towards the ground.
Luckily, Sonic is still present and catches sight of Maria falling. He runs over to get into position and leaps up towards her. Sonic catches Maria by getting her to land on his back. Then Sonic lands on the ground on all four feet with her still on his back. He trots off a bit to get some distance from Eggman`s hovercraft and the carnage that is taking place. After trotting off some distance, Sonic lowers himself down and allows for Maria to slip off onto the grassy ground.
Shadow jumps out of the hovercraft, leaving a beaten Eggman behind. Before Shadow lands on the ground, he gives the hovercraft one last blast of his chaos spear. The spear hits the hovercraft in the front and this rockets the hovercraft backwards, with Eggman in tow. He will be launched out of the area.
Landing on the ground, Shadow immediately turns his attention to Maria and Sonic. Sonic has his head lowered down to Maria`s, giving a few sniffs. Maria has her eyes open partially, looking up to Sonic. Shadow narrows his eyes at the scene and comes towards the two of them. He steps between them, facing Sonic and forcing him to back away from Maria. His quills are only partially stiffened and he gives light hissing to Sonic. Sonic backs up as what is desired of Shadow. He doesn`t raise his quills or hiss back. Instead he just gives the other GE hedgehogs their space and gives Shadow a cautious eye.
Shadow lowers his quills back down and quiets his hissing. He turns to Maria and lowers his head down to her. His nose gives Maria`s smaller a nose a light tap and then he is using his nose to scoop Maria onto his back. With that done, Shadow pauses and looks at Sonic from over his shoulder. Maria looks to Sonic as well. Looking back to them, Sonic lifts his tail half way and lightens his facial expression. Then Shadow takes off into the trees with Maria in tow.
