This piece has a very striking style - love the pen and ink style against all of the red!

As a quick note before going on, I made a change to Maria`s age. Earlier in chapter 2 it was stated that Maria was 11 years old. I have changed this to age 10. The reason for this being I don`t want her aged to 12 too soon.
Sonic Boom (Opening)
The months have flown by, turning into a passing year. (Maria would be 11 years old by this time.)

The Green Hill zone is a famous place for GE hedgehogs to be found and is one of many places a particular one will roam. It has loops, twists, turns and crevices. Places to climb, places to leap over, places to hide, it`s just perfect for the nimble GE hedgehogs. It`s the perfect place to RUN!

A blue, very speedy GE hedgehog is running loose in this zone. He has green eyes, and is peach coloured at his front legs, muzzle, belly and ear insides. He carries a confident smile as he makes his way through. His gift of speed is his power and does quite well with it.

He dashes between trees that are lined up in a row, running down this flat section of his randomly chosen path. Once the trees clear up, the ground starts to head downhill and the blue hedgehog follows it.

His name is Sonic.

The path quickly turns upwards and the blue hedgehog finds himself running up the side of a mountain. Up and up he runs, heading straight for the peak of it. Getting near the top he actually begins to spiral around the mountain peak. He reaches the top and comes to a halt, placing his front paws on top of the sharp point of the peak. The inertia of his speed sends him spinning on a circle while in this handstand pose once and then he descends back down the mountain the way he came. He runs down the side as quickly as he had ran up it. Reaching the bottom, he makes a turn and runs around the mountain and he continues his way of forming a random path. (0:55)

He leaps from boulder to boulder, making his way across a wide body of water. Luckily the boulders are there to serve as stepping stones for the blue hedgehog that can`t swim. As he comes to the last boulder, the shore is still a ways away. Sonic shows off his other ability by making an incredible leap from the boulder and across this water. He lands on the shore on all four feet and immediately starts into a run again.

The next obstacle in his path is a series of loops and twists. Sonic dashes through the first loop and is sent into the second loop. He clears that just fine so then next comes the corkscrew twist. This is an extensive section but Sonic clears that just fine. This takes him to a third loop and the while Sonic has a large smile on his face as he clears these. The last loop curls upwards at the end, sending Sonic flying up into the air. The speed shoots the blue hedgehog over top of all the trees that are well below him. Looking down at them, Sonic recognizes that this isn`t Green Hill below him. (1:26)

Landing on all four feet among the trees, Sonic pauses to look around and these new surroundings. This area is much darker than what Green Hill was a moment ago but it`s still light enough to see well. The trees are thick around Sonic though he`s currently standing in a clearing. He begins to walk forward, continuing to look around and also getting his nose working to tell him information about this place. Something seems off about this, some ominous feeling. Then he stops as his nose detects something new and his ears prick up more as he hears something as well. (1:47)

He turns his head to the side as something steps out from the darkness of the trees. It`s Shadow. He comes out into full view to Sonic in this clearing. The two of them are about the same size but their differing attitudes are quite obvious. Shadow`s head is hung a little low but his eyes are locked right onto Sonic in a deadly stare. (1:57)

Both Sonic and Shadow begin to walk in the same direction but the both of them have their gazes locked on to each other. Their gait mirroring one another, their pace is kept the same. Shadow`s eyes shift down for a moment to Sonic`s feet and then back up to his face, never dropping or lightening up his dark expression as he watches Sonic. (2:07)

Their pace picks up to a trot, moving their legs quicker. The two male hedgehogs continue to mirror each other`s movements, keeping their speed the same. This time it is Sonic who eyes up his opponent, looking down to Shadow`s feet and then back up to his face. Though Sonic isn`t showing any fear, his expression is still much different from Shadow`s. (2:18)

Now suddenly Sonic breaks into a run, moving his legs at a more desirable speed. Shadow is quick to start to run as well, moving at the same speed as Sonic. Shadow looks at Sonic again. Sonic smirks in a rather cocky fashion and his speed suddenly picks up. Shadow notices this and immediately quickens his own pace until he`s caught up to Sonic, which doesn`t take long. Sonic looks over to Shadow noticing this, and smirks again. The two are matched in speed it would seem. They quicken their speed yet again and are off. (2:37)

The two male GE hedgehogs are nothing more than a blue and a black streak, running side by side through the remainder of the forest. They weave through trees and leap over fallen logs and continue to mirror each other`s moves. Both move just as well as his opponent. On occasion, both Shadow and Sonic will shift their eye over to give the other a glance and then return to watching the fast moving scenery coming towards them. The tree population is beginning to thin out and thus the area is lightening up a little more. However, dusk is quickly approaching. But their running doesn`t slow down, Sonic and Shadow continue their silent race. Soon the trees are thinned out enough where there is a clearing. Shadow begins to moves faster than Sonic suddenly.
